Protect your domain from unwanted loss
DENIC's TRANSIT procedure is a free service for all domain holders and protects against the unwanted loss of the domain.
The domain is not deleted immediately, but is temporarily managed directly by DENIC and cannot be registered by anyone else. This allows time to decide on how to proceed.

- Protection against domain loss if the provider is no longer available.
- The domain remains available and is not deleted immediately.
- The owner can:
- choose a new provider,
- have the domain deleted,
- or decide to have the domain managed directly by DENIC for a fee.
Changing providers or deleting domains is free of charge at DENIC. Administration by DENIC (DENICdirect) is subject to a fee.
How does the process work?
DENIC informs the domain holder by letter about the TRANSIT status and the next steps. The letter contains a personal password that the holder can use to make their decision in the TRANSIT Service Center.
Options for the domain holder:
Change of provider
Transfer the domain to a new provider.
Good to know:
The domain holder has one month to make a decision on change of provider. The individual date is stated in the TRANSIT letter.
Deletion
Release the domain and terminate the contract.
