.de Registry Lock
More security for your .de domain
.de Registry Lock offers additional protection for your .de domain.
It prevents unwanted changes to important domain data such as holder information, name servers, or the provider.
Why .de Registry Lock protects your domain from attacks
Domains—especially those belonging to companies, brands, or public authorities—are attractive targets for attacks. Without additional protection measures, your domain is at risk. Cyberattacks, domain hijacking, and security breaches are a real risk—protect your domain from unwanted manipulation.
Who does what?
Domain holder
Before the domain holder requests .de Registry Lock, they check the stored domain data via the domain query. If the data is correct, they request the lock to be set up via their provider. To do this, they must complete the form provided by the provider in full and provide proof of identity. The form also specifies a lock contact who must confirm any changes to the domain data.
Provider
The provider is the first point of contact for the domain holder for all processes relating to .de Registry Lock. It provides the necessary forms and forwards the requests—whether to set up a .de Registry Lock, change domain data, or change the lock contact—to DENIC for processing.
Lock Contact
The lock contact is the point of contact for all changes to domain data. When DENIC receives a request from the provider to change the domain data, an approval token is sent to the lock contact's mobile phone number and an email is sent to the email address on file. If the lock contact confirms the request to DENIC by providing the token, the change is authorized and carried out. If the Lock Contact does not confirm within seven calendar days, the request is rejected.
DENIC
DENIC checks the requests received from the provider to set up, change, or remove the .de Registry Lock, as well as the change requests for the domain data of a locked domain. If the check fails, the request is returned to the provider without being executed. If the check is successful, DENIC requests confirmation of the action to be taken from the Lock Contact. After appropriate authorization, the domain is updated and the lock contact and the provider are informed.
