DENIC mourns the Passing of Siegfried Langenbach, former Chairman of its Supervisory Board

DENIC was deeply saddened to hear of the sudden, unexpected death on 27 September 2005 of Siegfried Langenbach at the age of sixty. Nearly all of DENIC's members vividly remember Siegfried Langenbach as a very active and long-standing member. He never wavered in his commitment to DENIC and followed its work closely and constructively with a great depth of technical knowledge, but was never one to hold back with criticism when he felt it was due. He enjoyed the trust of all his colleagues, who held him in the highest esteem. One manifestation of this was his election as Chairman of the Supervisory Board at DENIC's founding General Assembly in December 1996 – a position he held until 16 July 1998. Even after that, he remained a regular participant at General Assemblies and contributed to the further development of the cooperative with his numerous ideas and suggestions. He was one of the early proponents of the international development of the Internet and became a member of many bodies concerned with it, such as the ICANN Membership Advisory Committee.

Siegfried Langenbach had been active in the data-processing sector since 1972 through the Computer Service Langenbach GmbH (CSL) company, but over the last two years had withdrawn more and more from the operational side of the business.

Our feelings go out to all those who knew and loved him. On behalf of all our members, the Executive Board and Supervisory Board extend their deepest condolences to his family in their bereavement. DENIC will always honour and cherish the memory of Siegfried Langenbach.
