Validation

You can only register a particular ENUM domain if you are the legitimate holder of the corresponding E.164 telephone number. In accordance with DENIC’s ENUM Terms and Conditions, in making the registration, the future ENUM domain holder assures that all the data given is correct and that he/she is entitled to use the number concerned. As an additional security mechanism, each DENIC member has a duty to check that the domain holder is the legitimate holder of the number before submitting any registration, renewal or provider change request.

In Germany, there is no such institution as a central database for the administration of telephone numbers. For this reason, very different validation methods, all of which may be appropriate, are available, depending on the target or customer group. Each DENIC member is free to develop a suitable validation method of its own or to make use of the services of a validation-service provider. In any case, DENIC members must make sure that they are always in possession of a positive validation, which must not be older than twelve months, for each ENUM domain. In addition, the member must submit the validation information to DENIC whenever necessary.

In accordance with DENIC’s ENUM Terms and Conditions, you as the domain holder must inform DENIC immediately through a DENIC member whenever there is a change in the domain data, especially if you lose the right to use the ENUM domain; alternatively, you can request to have the ENUM domain deleted. As a measure to enhance data integrity, the Domain Contract for registering an ENUM domain is not valid indefinitely (as is the case for .de domain registrations), but only for a period of one year. The Domain Contract may be extended for a further twelve months' period, subject to successful revalidation.
