Changing the Provider

Each registered .de domain is administered either by a DENIC member or by DENICdirect. If a domain is transferred from administration by one DENIC member to administration by another DENIC member or by DENICdirect, this procedure is called a provider change. Since such a change often goes along with changes to the technical infrastructure of the domain concerned, the process must be well coordinated to ensure that the domain stays available on the Internet without interruption. Providers who are not DENIC members themselves will work together with one of our members, who will then be in charge of administering the domain concerned.

DENIC offers the modern password-protected AuthInfo procedure  to change providers which is quick, safe and efficient.

Please note: In the past, clients sometimes tried to carry out a provider change by deleting a domain in order to re-register it with a new provider. This procedure is wrong! Once a domain has been deleted, it is available for registration by whoever asks for it first. This action must be avoided under all circumstances, since once a domain has been deleted, it is directly available for registration by whoever asks for it first.
