Domains - Being Present on the Internet
Being present in the Internet with your own domain has many benefits. That is why for many Internet users - regardless of whether they are companies or private individuals - this has almost become a matter of course in recent years.
On the following pages, you will learn, e. g., how to register a domain, which umlauts and other European letters are allowed in your domain name since 2004 and what else you should keep in mind.
Should the domain you wish to register be already registered for someone else and you consider this an infringement of your rights, please read the DISPUTE topic to learn how a DISPUTE entry by DENIC can help you to settle the question with the current domain holder.
For those of you already holding a .de domain, important information on updating your domain data, e. g. after the domain has been transferred or after you have changed your provider, can also be found on these pages.
If your provider has transferred administration of your domain to DENIC you will be notified in writing that your domain has been placed in TRANSIT. What this really means and what you must do to go on using your domain as before is explained in detail in the TRANSIT section.
