Holder Change
As a general rule, .de domains can be transferred. In other words, the existing domain holder can assign it to another prospective holder, who will then be entered as the new domain holder. The only case in which a change of holder is not possible affects domains that are subject to a DISPUTE entry. In this context, please take a look at ยง6 of DENIC's Domain Terms and Conditions.
If the new holder does not want the domain to be administered by the same DENIC member as chosen by the previous holder, the holder change will comprise two processes: an update of the holder's data (CHHOLDER) and a provider change (CHPROV). Generally, you are recommended to stick to the following procedure:
- The "old" domain holder terminates the contractual relationship with their provider and requests this provider to have recorded an AuthInfo for the domain concerned. The provider then administering the domain communicates this AuthInfo to the "old" domain holder.
- The "old" domain holder transmits this AuthInfo to the future domain holder.
- The future domain holder communicates the AuthInfo to the provider they have chosen to administrate the domain in the future. The future provider then moves the domain with the help of the AuthInfo. Simultaneously with the provider change a holder change is performed and the new domain holder is recorded in DENIC's database.
Important Note:
Domains should never be transferred by the current domain holder deleting it and the future holder then having it registered by his/her provider. Once a domain has been deleted, it will be immediately available for registration by anyone else who is interested. Only by using the procedure described above you can ensure that a domain is properly transferred.
