Deleting a domian
If you want to delete your domain, please contact your provider. Make sure that you are as precise as possible, so that your provider really knows what you want and that there is no risk of misunderstanding what your intention is. Vague instructions like "I don’t want my domain any more" or "please switch off my domain" do not indicate that you want to delete your domain for ever and that you want DENIC to remove it from its system. It might be that you just want to terminate the service contract with your provider. Such a step does not lead to deletion of the domain, since the existence of the domain is covered by a contract between DENIC and the domain holder. In order to eliminate this sort of potential misunderstanding, many providers insist on the use of a special form for ordering the definitive deletion of domains. That is also the case for customers of our DENICdirect service. Such customers must complete and sign the Deletion Form for DENICdirect Customers Deletion Form for DENICdirect Customers and send the original to us.
DENIC's policy is that it only deletes domains upon receiving instructions from the DENIC member responsible for administering them at the time. This measure provides protection against malicious deletions by third parties; this is necessary since DENIC is itself not able to verify the authorization of the party ordering deletion.
Your provider forwards your request for deletion to DENIC. Once we have received it, it is no longer possible to stop the deletion. The domain concerned will then be immediately available for registration by other prospective domain holders.
