Membership

The members of DENIC are companies and organizations which offer Internet services to their customers, particularly the administration of domains. They all feel an active commitment to the principle of self-regulation and to serving the German Internet Community.

Being a DENIC member has many advantages. Only members of the Cooperative have direct access to DENIC’s electronic registration system. Providers who offer to register domains and who are not members themselves always work together with a DENIC member. And, moreover, being a member of DENIC is the only way to be able to participate actively in the work of the Cooperative’s official bodies and influence its decisions directly. DENIC is pleased whenever anyone new is interested in becoming a member, so that they can make their contribution to the further development of the Internet in Germany.

DENIC's legal structure is that of a cooperative. All cooperation of the DENIC members is based on the Statutes, which define the structure and regulate the rights and obligations of the members of the Cooperative. Who can become a DENIC member?

According to the DENIC Statutes, any natural or legal person can become a member who

• administers Internet domains under the Top Level Domain .de,
• is not financially connected to any current member, except a member of an executive body (i.e. Executive Board or Supervisory Board),
• and who is able to prove long-term financial stability beyond serious doubt.

How does a DENIC membership benefit me?

DENIC members can make available to their customers all services around .de domains directly themselves. They have direct access to the registration system and can pass on their customers' requests directly to DENIC.

 

DENIC members demonstrate that they are willing to take on joint responsibility in the administration and provision of an important Internet resource in Germany within the framework of self-regulation. They also demonstrate their active commitment to their customers and the entire German Internet Community.

 

Moreover, DENIC members will always be kept up to date via internal DENIC mailing lists. Special web pages, which can only be accessed by DENIC members, provide with additional information, e.g. about the utilization of systems and services, billing data, documentary reports and events.

Which rights do I have as a DENIC member?

In keeping with the provisions of the German Cooperatives Act and the Statutes of DENIC, every DENIC member has the right to contribute to the shaping of the Cooperative and make use of its services.

 

In concrete terms, this means - after having signed the Member Terms and Conditions - direct access to the electronic registration system, involvement in the statutory bodies of the Cooperative and active participation in the discussions about the registration policy and the technical processes.

Where can I get further information?

When deciding whether a membership would be a rewarding option, you will consider a whole number of factors. Specific configuration of the technical accesses will be of the same importance as legal and financial details.
